Saturday, February 28, 2026, 6:00 p.m.
Conference Hall 1.3, Litexpo (Laisvės ave. 5, Vilnius)
We invite you to the presentation of the book “Ugnis ir tikėjimas. Lietuvos istorija ir mitologija operos scenoje” (“Fire and Faith. Lithuanian History and Mythology on the Opera Stage”) – a detailed and intriguing story about the reflections of Lithuanian history and mythology on the opera stage around the world.
The authors of the monograph – Helmutas Šabasevičius, Rūta Stanevičiūtė, Jūratė Katinaitė and Daiva Šabasevičienė – found Lithuanian plots in as many as 67 operas created from the beginning of the 18th century to the present day in Italy, Poland, Russia, Germany, France, the USA, Australia and elsewhere.
The book covers the period from Alessandro Scarlatti’s opera-oratorio “San Casimiro, rè di Polonia” to Constantine Koukias’ opera “Oleg”, staged in Tasmania. The publication reveals how Lithuanian history and mythology have been interpreted in different periods and countries.
The event will be attended by:
