BALTIC MUSICOLOGICAL CONFERENCE
“Music History Beyond State Borders: Micro-, Meso-, and Macro-Regionality of Musical Culture”

The Baltic Musicologists Conference “Music History Beyond State Borders: Micro-, Meso-, and Macro-Regionality of Musical Culture” is being organized in Vilnius on October 29–31, 2024. The conference, organized jointly with the International Society of Musicologists (IMS) study group “Music and Cultural Studies” (led by Dr. Tatjana Marković, University of Vienna), aims to closely explore and interpret the localization and networking of musical phenomena, the cultural areas of musical genres and practices from small homelands (microregions) to global contexts.

The Baltic Musicology Conferences are the most important musicology forum in Lithuania, bringing together scholars from Europe, the USA and Asia to discuss cultural and regional connections and exclusions, identifications and repercussions. Guest lecturers will participate – prominent figures in research on the topics important to the conference: historian Professor Dr. Jörg Hackmann (University of Szczecin, AABS / Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies), musicologists Dr. Rasika Ajotikar (University of Hildesheim) and Prof. Dr. Tatjana Marković (Austrian Academy of Sciences). Special sessions and a discussion dedicated to digital humanities and the dissemination of its methodologies in music editing practices will be held during the conference.

The Baltic Musicologists Conference will be held at the J. Karosas Hall of LMTA and the Balcony Theatre (Gedimino ave. 42, Vilnius).
