Happy March 11th – Lithuania’s Independence Day!

Yesterday, we celebrated this special day in the Great Hall of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre with music, fellowship, and meaningful moments. At the festive event, the Academy community was greeted by the rector of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Assoc. Prof. Judita Žukienė, and the rector of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Prof. Ieva Skauronė.

During the celebration, Kazimieras Motieka Foundation scholarships were awarded to two outstanding members of the LMTA community:

Varvara Yahadnitskaya, 1st year student of the Department of Wind and Percussion at the LMTA (oboe, Prof. Dr. Robertas Beinaris, accompanist Lina Šatkutė).

Jūratė Katinaitė, a graduate of doctoral studies at the LMTA, a researcher at PARC, who successfully defended her dissertation in the field of art studies (musicology) “Opera Soloist in the Field of Soviet Lithuanian Culture: The Case of the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre” (supervisor Prof. Dr. Rūta Stanevičiūtė-Kelmickienė).

The celebration also featured music by the Brass Ensemble (conductor Marius Balčytis) and a performance by Greta Ratovič, a jazz specialization master’s student at the LMTA, and Prof. Artūras Anusauskas.

We congratulate the laureates and the entire LMTA community on the holiday of freedom – a day that reminds us of our history, responsibility, and inspiration to create in a free Lithuania.
