The publication “Prie savosios kultūros šaltinių. Muzikos istoriografijos profiliai“ is a scientific work that synthesizes the author’s research on musicology and ethnomusicology historiography conducted since the 1990s. Its goal is to present a complementary overview of Lithuanian musical historiography, which would expand and supplement its consistent picture and not repeat the mass of historical material already familiar to the scientific community.
The writing of this scientific work was also motivated by the desire to highlight new data and sources that are less frequently seen by researchers, to reveal the creative profiles of prominent personalities (Johann Gottfried Herder, Oskars Kolberg, Christian Bartsch, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Jadvyga Čiurlionytė, Algirdas Juliusus Greimas, Marija Birutė Gimbutienė) who stimulated or otherwise influenced research into Lithuanian traditional culture, the development of musicology and ethnomusicology, and their contributions to the field of musicology.
