Assoc. Prof. Dr. Brigita Bublytė’s monograph “Balso kaukės. Vieta, kur susilieja garsas ir kalba, kūnas ir tradicija, emocijos ir kultūra” (Voice Masks. A Place Where Sound and Language, Body and Tradition, Emotions and Culture Merge was published by the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The book focuses on vocal expression, which is revealed in the everyday life of actors, singers, contemporary performers (voice performers) and in ethnic traditions. The monograph is intended not only for creators and performers developing professional skills, but also for everyone for whom the voice is an important part of communication, self-expression or work.

B. Bublytė is a Lithuanian artist, researcher, singer, actress, director and educator. Her unique research focus is voice and movement coordination. This book is one of the results of the author’s multifaceted research into voice expression. In the monograph, she shares her knowledge, experience and discoveries, inviting us to explore the voice as a tool for creativity and intercultural communication: to reveal the possibilities of the voice, to overcome fears of one’s own voice, to experience the pleasure of speaking, singing, screaming, wailing or ritual repetition, and to understand the power of listening. This is especially relevant today, when live voice communication is increasingly being replaced by electronic messages and artificial intelligence.

During the presentations, the audience will have a unique opportunity to see and hear how voice masks work in practice. All this will be demonstrated by the author of the monograph and the ensemble she has assembled (actresses Eglė Špokaitė and Kamilė Petruškevičiūtė, contemporary dance students Eunike Karosas and Sofiia Vlasova, singers Neda Malūnavičiūtė and Rafailas Karpis, double bassist Gediminas Stepanavičius, saxophonist Janas Maksimovičius) and a group of LMTA students initiated by Prof. Anne-Liis Poll and specially assembled for this event. The guests of the event are LMTA Vice-Rector Dr. Ramunė Balevičiūtė, book reviewer Prof. habil. Dr. Daiva Račiūnaitė-Vyčinienė, Professor of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Anne-Liis Poll, otolaryngologist Austėja Pečeliūnienė, and the creative group of the monograph.
