We are proud to share that Lina Navickaitė, a professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and a musicologist, was invited to deliver a plenary lecture titled “Performer Hero: Meanings of Gestures in Musical Performance” at the 16th International Congress on the Significance of Music, held in Helsinki, Finland, from June 2 to 6.
The Congress which began 40 years ago in Imatra, Finland, is one of the platforms of the Music Signification Project, founded in Paris in 1984. Since then, the Congress, held every 2–4 years, has consistently attracted a loyal community of music semioticians. This year, the congress, titled “ICMS 16: MUSIC AS MEANINGFUL ART”, took place at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, with 130 scholars from around the world in attendance; among the plenary speakers were such renowned musicologists and semioticists as Robert Hatten (USA), Marta Grabocz (France), and David Lidov (USA / Canada).
Lectures were also presented at the congress by LAMT Assoc. Prof. Rimantas Astrauskas and PhD candidate Paulius Prasauskas.
Congratulations to our colleagues for contributing to the international dialogue on musicology and music semiotics and for representing LAMT on this prestigious academic stage.
