The doctoral students in art and art studies worked with Latvian composer Kristas Auznieks, British musicologist and pianist Julian Hellaby, Finnish documentary filmmaker Susanna Helke and actress Ilona Krawczyk, who conducts artistic research in Great Britain, as well as with LMTA researchers who supervise artistic research – musicologist Lina Navickaite-Martinelli and theatre scholar Ramune Balevičiūtė. It seems that the walls alone, steeped in the mysteries of the past, the rooms and terraces enveloped in an ancient aura, as well as the wonderful park surrounding the castle – the very environment encouraged new insights and creativity. We agreed that we would continue and improve the project next year” – said Ramunė Balevičiūtė, Vice-Rector of LMTA, one of the organizers of the camp.

“For me, the doctoral summer school was about the processes of cognition, curiosity provocation and discovery. I am very happy that we had the opportunity to share a concentrated space of scientific and artistic research with the lecturers of the program – artist-researchers from different fields and other art doctoral students. I feel that both the lectures and individual sessions with mentors or conversations with other doctoral students not only expanded the field of knowledge, but also helped me better listen to my own artistic research. It seems that the doctoral summer school program created a space that allows me to observe my research process from other perspectives, detect its shortcomings, grasp possible solutions to them and awaken curiosity to move forward” – shared her experiences with Monika Klimaitė-Daunienė, a doctoral student in art and theater director.

Another summer school participant, filmmaker Miglė Križinauskaitė-Bernotienė, emphasized the opportunity to develop in an interdisciplinary and international context. “I really appreciate that the thematic focus on artistic research, especially the “dreamvoice” technique, perfectly matched my artistic practice and artistic research interests.
